A fic about the reader wanting to help Spencer after Maeve’s death.

“Spencer? It’s Y/N,” You called from outside of his apartment. “Are you in there?”

That was a stupid question. Where else would he be? He hadn’t left his apartment since Maeve…Maeve. You had never met Maeve. To you, she was just a shifty figure that Spencer had mooned over for months. Perhaps he’d even fallen in love with her.

“Spencer. Please.” You knocked on his door a couple more times. You just wished that he would open the door. You weren’t a part of the BAU, you were just his best friend. Of course, you knew all of his work friends; you’d gone to the bar and to parties with them. You also understood why he didn’t want to see the BAU team, they reminded him of how he lost her. But you just had coffee with him and occasionally went to the bookstore. There was no chance you could have reminded him of her. You even had different tastes in books.

You put your ear to the door. Not even the sound of footsteps. You were almost inclined to use your key to unlock the door and just sort of bust in. But you had respect for Spencer’s need of solitude right now. He was usually a private person, so you understood.

You shifted the dozens of baskets in front of his door and slid down onto the floor. They were mostly from Penelope. Nuts, dried fruit, chocolates. But you knew Spencer a lot better than most people. You had brought him a steaming hot bag of Indian takeout. His favorite.
Deep down inside, you knew that Spencer probably just wanted to be alone, but you also knew that talking to anybody could help. If only he would just open that door.

“If you don’t want to talk to anyone, I understand. But If you do, I’ll just be out here,” you shouted. You pulled the bag of takeout to your arched knees and placed your chin over it. You couldn’t even imagine how he felt. But you could imagine what it felt like to feel like you lost someone.

You had been in love, or maybe it was just a giant crush or infatuation, but you felt very strongly about Spencer Reid. But he had fallen in love with Maeve, probably the smartest person he had ever met. It wasn’t a surprise that he had fallen in love with her. She was his exact counterpoint. Perfect for him.

But you could only pray and hope and wait, which sounded completely insane. Giving up your entire love life on the notion that you might have a chance with a man who had never given you a second glance romantically. It was ridiculous. You knew deep down that it would never happen. But you just didn’t want to admit it.

Spencer

You had always been a dreamer, with wide eyes and a whimsical visage. Sometimes your dreams got in the way of the cruel, dark reality that you were living. Spencer had always admired that about you since he was a complete realist. And you had loved that about him.

But for now, you had to be content with just being there for him. Being his friend and only his friend. You loved him enough to give him that. So you sat there, staring at the bouquets in his hallway, waiting, just waiting for the broken doctor to need you just as much as you needed him.
